this picture speaks for itself



Foreclosures in our neighborhood. We live at the green dot. In the beginning, they'd have For Sale signs, but now, the banks often don't even bother to list them with a Realtor. The only evidence is that the lights are never on, they look abandoned after a while, or have electrical shutoff notices pasted to the front door. There are blocks on the North side where 80% of the houses are foreclosed and empty.

Ack! Makes me sad and sick at the very same time.

I read an article somewhere detailing how the lives of non-occupied houses is surprisingly short - only a few months in cold or humid environments. Sure, they'll survive longer, but the damage is often so great that they're not worth repairing. THAT is what scares me the most - all these houses that will be unsafe for living in less than a years time. Then what?
